About Zbigniew Blajerski
About Zbigniew Blajerski
Zbigniew Blajerski studied under Jerzy Nowakowski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. A native of Ustrzyki Dolne, a picturesque town in direct proximity to the mountains, he sculpts in numerous materials, predominantly in stone and wood. He also has significant achievements in ceramics and drawing and has held numerous exhibitions all over Poland.
Zbigniew has been sculpting for over fifteen years, continuing the long-standing family tradition. His parents were first teachers and critics of his work. The artistic vocabulary started forming in their studio in Jaroslaw, Subcarpathia but expanded during studies under Jerzy Nowakowski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Blajerski is very comprehensive, he works with ceramics, wood, stone, metal, cast, and resin.
Blajerski’s work, artistic ideas, and projects come alive in his workshop in Cracow. He gets a lot of satisfaction from creating. This feeling is brought on in the daylight as a result of huge physical exertion, and mental engagement. Getting through the process of creation takes the artist to be well prepared with the project and to organize the workspace to make a sculpture from a specific material. It also takes a lot of patience and a strong will to self-improvement.
The material he likes the most is ceramics, because as Blajeski said himself: “It gives me a lot of freedom of creation and allows for abstract thinking.” Except for ceramics he creates from lime, oak, black oak, and walnut wood; stones such as carrara marble, rosso portugalo, travertine, limestone, sandstone, and granite.
Blajerski established his specific style of fishnet constructions. With such a base he creates mostly busts enameled in different colors. It became his identification mark and brought him recognition in the sculpture market. In his creative work, he seeks the answers about our existence in society. He considers the meaning of individual existence and marks that bond our lives with the past. Blajerski believes that prints made by humans in the wood will be eventually destroyed by the fire and turned to ashes. In addition, all the meanings of wooden creations will vanish. In ceramics, fire is a creation tool, which embeds artistic forms brought to life by the water - direct opposition to fire. Blajerski finds symbolism in ceramic art. He assumes that some people are mentally as fragile and sensitive as clay. That's why he loved this material for the creation of sculptures.
Blajerski doesn't tolerate emptiness, when he’s not sculpting, he draws. What’s more, he also plays the bass in the band called “Calmly” founded with college colleagues.
